| It was a rainy day but we traveled on to Shimada, the east side of the Oi River, the largest on the Tokaido. Here Hiroshige gives a bird's eye view of a daimyo's procession waiting for the porters to take them across the river. There were few bridges, to make it difficult for reble samurai to move an army. |
