The Morning Glory Ride 2008 Route
Columbia Parkway AND MGR Classic are back
Once again, we're on Columbia Parkway by popular demand, and we're adding several options to the route to make it more challenging for serious riders and easier on those of you who're just interested in a nice, easy, scenic ride.
Choose either of two routes
There'll be two start times:
- 4:30 am for regular riders who want to ride the 17-mile Classic Morning Glory route, which we've renamed "The Morning Glory Ride Mayor's Classic" in recognition of Mayor Mark Mallory's efforts in getting it re-established. Thanks, your honor! This route takes you out Columbia Parkway, up Delta Avenue, through Hyde Park, Eden Park and down Gilbert Avenue, through downtown and back to Sawyer Point for breakfast.
- 5:30 am is when the Family/Leisure ride starts. This is a relaxed, gently rolling 10-mile ride out Columbia Parkway and back for breakfast.
See Mayor's Classic Route turn-by-turn instructions here
Can't get enough?
No problem. We've got more.
After riding the Mayor's Classic, you can either stop for breakfast and then ride on, or continue across the Taylor Southgate bridge into Kentucky, through Newport and Covington, then out scenic Route 8.
Ride as far or as little as you like, then head back to Sawyer Point. And breakfast, of course. But be sure to return to Sawyer Point before 8:30 am when we stop serving breakfast.
Please note:
The Route 8 segment will have some directional signage but there will be no corner volunteers and SAG support will be minimal.
Routes, Maps, More ...
Whichever route you choose, we'll have printed maps for you, with turn-by-turn directions. There'll also be volunteers along the two main routes to assist you, and SAG wagons courtesy of our sponsoring bike shops in case you have mechanical problems.
Gears4Beers cyclists will be riding the routes too, in case you need minor mechanical help.
Enjoy!
This is not a race. Strong riders will probably complete the Classic route in 1 1/2 hours or less. Casual riders will take longer. But that's ok. Take your time, enjoy.
Breakfast is served from 6:00 to 8:30 am
We ride rain or moonshine!
Safety First
Remember, only Columbia Parkway is closed to automobile traffic. You'll be sharing all other roads with cars.
ALL BICYCLISTS MUST OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS!
Cincinnati Police officers will control traffic signals along the Classic Route.
They'll keep the lights green at most intersections, but if the light is red, THERE ARE CARS COMING AND YOU MUST STOP. No "Maybes". No "Look first then blow through the red". RED MEANS STOP!.
Ride Safe
- Obey all traffic laws.
- Ride with traffic.
- Be predictable. Don't make sudden moves such as swerving, changing lanes or changing direction.
- Stay alert.
- Wear a bicycle helmet and have head and tail lights, as required by Ohio Law. Reflectors and light colored or reflective clothing are encouraged.
If there's an emergency
- In the event of an emergency, find the nearest phone and dial 911.
- Some corner volunteers will have cell phones.
- If you own a cell phone, please bring it with you.
